Rapper/Singer Boku no Lyric no BŌYOMI Retires in January

Rapper and singer Boku no Lyric no BŌYOMI announced on NTV's NEWS ZERO television program on Friday that he will end his career in the music industry in January. He will release his final original album Botsuraku (Ruin) and greatest hits album Ningen (Human) on December 12.

Often described as a "prodigy," he explained that he feels controlled by the image of himself as the artist Boku no Lyric no BŌYOMI in other people's minds. The 20-year-old said he "can't stand" living in the shadow of that image and added, "I want to become free." He explained that he hopes to follow his own desires in the future and plans to "bury the artist called Boku no Lyric no BŌYOMI." He noted that he has apprehensions about his life in the future, but he said, "I think I'll be able to do everything I want to do because it's fun even if you fail."

Boku no Lyric no BŌYOMI released his first album, hollow world, as a high school senior in 2015. He performed the theme song "Be Noble" for the first live-action March comes in like a lion film in 2017. His music has appeared in a commercial for the Anessa sunscreen line and as the ending theme song for the SR Saitama no Rapper ~Mic no Hosomichi~ live-action television series. He released the single "Boku wa Mō Inai" (I No Longer Exist) on September 19, and he will begin a seven-venue national tour on September 25.
