Pokémon the Movie: The Power of Us Anime Film's New English Clip Streamed

posted on by Crystalyn Hodgkins
Film screens in U.S. for 4 days in November-December

The Pokémon Company International began streaming an English-dubbed clip on Saturday from Pokémon the Movie: The Power of Us (Gekijōban Pocket Monster: Minna no Monogatari), the 21st film in the Pokémon franchise.

The film will have a limited theatrical release through Fathom Events in the United States on November 24, November 26, November 28, and December 1.

The Pokémon Company describes the film:

Pokémon the Movie: The Power of Us tells the story of Ash and Pikachu as they journey to a small seaside town filled with a diverse set of characters, including a young athlete, a compulsive liar, a shy researcher, a bitter old woman, and a little girl with a big secret.

Every year, the townspeople gather to celebrate the Legendary Pokémon Lugia, who brings the wind that saved the town from destruction many years ago. The festival is a time for celebration, with a Pokémon Catching Race and a ceremonial flame burning brightly to summon Lugia. But when a series of incidents threatens not just the festival, but all the people and Pokémon who call the town home, it's going to take more than just Ash and Pikachu to save the day. Will these people be able to put aside their differences and work together to rescue their town? Or will it all end in destruction?

The film premiered in theaters in Japan on July 13 and opened at #2 at the Japanese box office. Lugia and a new Mythical Pokémon named Zeraora appear in the film. The story is set during the annual Wind Festival at Frau City, which is blessed with wind from the Legendary Pokémon Lugia.

Kunihiko Yuyama, who has directed many of the earlier Pokémon films, including last year's Pokémon the Movie: I Choose You!, returned as animation supervisor. Eiji Umehara (Grimoire of Zero, Beelzebub scriptwriter) and Aya Takaha wrote the script.

Wit Studio (Attack on Titan, Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress) handled animation production along with the franchise's mainstay studio Oriental Light and Magic. Tetsuo Yajima, the assistant director of last year's Pokémon the Movie: I Choose You!, returned to direct the film, and Shizue Kaneko (If Her Flag Breaks, Pan de Peace!) designed the characters.

Rock band Porno Graffiti performed the film's theme song "Breath."
