Square Enix Reveals Release Schedule for Kingdom Hearts III Game's Epilogue Video, Secret Video

posted on by Crystalyn Hodgkins
Game launches on PS4, Xbox One on January 25 in Japan, January 29 worldwide

The official English and Japanese Twitter accounts for the Kingdom Hearts video game franchise revealed details on Friday for the Kingdom Hearts III game's launch-day patch content and other additional content.

In Japan, the game will release on January 25 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, and Square Enix will release an update for the game at midnight JST that day that will include data corrections and a set of memorial archive videos. Those videos are the same five digest videos currently streaming on the game's official Japanese website.

Square Enix will then release the game's epilogue video on January 26 at midnight, although players will have to complete the game before being able to access the video. Additionally, Square Enix will release a "secret video" for the game on January 31 at 7:00 p.m. JST. The video will be available for those who have completed the game and have also met certain conditions within the game (the conditions will differ based on which difficulty players play the game).

Square Enix is also releasing the same three content items for the global version of the game, but on a different time schedule. The global version of the game launches on January 29, and the game will receive the same update with data corrections and the memory archive videos on launch day. Square Enix will release the epilogue video on January 30, then the secret video on January 31.

Game director Tetsuya Nomura had stated at Tokyo Game Show in September that the game would have a secret movie, similar to other games in the franchise, but that the staff were deciding on how to implement the secret movie into the game. Nomura said at the time he might release the movie as DLC after the game launched, in order to be fair and to avoid potential spoilers for players.

Confirmed worlds for Kingdom Hearts III include Big Hero 6, Toy Story, Tangled, Monsters, Inc., Pirates of the Caribbean, Frozen, and the returning Olympus Coliseum and Winnie-the-Pooh worlds.

Music producer Skrillex, singer Hikaru Utada, and record producer Poo Bear are collaborating on the opening theme song "Face My Fears." Utada is also performing the ending theme song "Don't Think Twice" (the song with Japanese lyrics is titled "Chikai" or "Oath"). The game's English audio will also feature returning cast members reprising their roles from various Disney films.

Square Enix will release the first novel based on the game in Japan on March 28. Tomoco Kanemaki is returning to pen the novel, and Shiro Amano is returning for the illustrations. Yen Press has released previous novels and manga in the franchise in English.
