posted on by Egan Loo

The official website for the television anime of Makoto Yukimura's Vinland Saga manga unveiled the anime's second animated promotional video (with English subtitles) and new key visual on Wednesday. The website and the new video reveal more cast members, anime's 24-episode length, and the July 6 streaming premiere.

The newly announced cast members are:
Naoya Uchida as Askeladd, the head of a band of 100 Vikings

Kensho Ono as Canute, the prince second in line to the Danish throne

Akio Ohtsuka as Thorkell, the general known for his extraordinary physique and strength

Hiroki Yasumoto as Bjorn, an old veteran who assists Askeladd in leading his band

The series will premiere on July 7 at 24:10 (effectively, July 8 at 12:10 a.m.) on the NHK General channel, except in the Kansai area, where it will start at 24:45 (12:45 a.m.). It will also stream exclusively on Amazon Prime Video both in Japan and overseas, with the first episode streaming in Japan early on July 6 at 24:00 (July 7 at 12:00 a.m.). It will run for 24 episodes.

Tokyo's Shinjuku Wald 9 theater will host a premiere screening with director Shuhei Yabuta and cast members Shizuka Ishigami, Yuto Uemura, and Kenichirou Matsuda

The main cast stars:

Shizuka Ishigami as Thorfinn (childhood)

Yuto Uemura as Thorfinn

Kenichirou Matsuda as Thors

Shuhei Yabuta (Inuyashiki Last Hero director, Attack on Titan 3D director) is directing the anime at Wit Studio (Attack on Titan, Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress, The Ancient Magus' Bride). Hiroshi Seko (Banana Fish, Ajin: Demi-Human) is supervising the series scripts and writing them with Kenta Ihara (Saga of Tanya the Evil). Takahiko Abiru (Hunter × Hunter animation director) is designing the characters. Bamboo is in charge of the art, and Madbox is in charge of special effects.

Yutaka Yamada (Tokyo Ghoul, Donten ni Warau Gaiden: Ketsubetsu, Yamainu no Chikai) is composing the music. Ken Hashimoto is the color key artist, and Yusuke Takeda is directing the art at Bamboo. Mayu Takehana is directing the CG, and Chiptune is charge of 3D CGI.

Yuuki Kawashita is the director of photography, and Kashiko Kimura is editing. Shōji Hata is directing the sound at Sound Team Don Juan.

Kodansha Comics began publishing the series in North America in 2013, and the 10th English omnibus volume, which includes the chapters from Japanese volumes 19 and 20, shipped in June. The company describes the story:

Thorfinn is son to one of the Vikings' greatest warriors, but when his father is killed in battle by the mercenary leader Askeladd, he swears to have his revenge. Thorfinn joins Askeladd's band in order to challenge him to a duel, and ends up caught in the middle of a war for the crown of England. From the creator of the classic Planetes manga comes this epic, highly-anticipated tale.

Yukimura launched the series in Japan in Kodansha's Weekly Shōnen Magazine in 2005, but Kodansha moved the series to Kodansha's Monthly Afternoon magazine later that year. Kodansha published the manga's 21st Japanese compiled book volume on August 23, and will publish the 22nd volume on June 21. The series has more than 5 million copies in print. The manga received the Best General Manga award in Kodansha's 36th Annual Manga Awards in 2012. The series won the Grand Prize in the manga division in the Ministry of Cultural Affairs' 13th Japan Media Arts Festival Awards in 2009.
