The event will also screen the world premiere of the The Girl from the Other Side 10-minute anime short, in conjunction with the Canadian premiere of Trigger's Promare film on August 1. The double screening will serve as the festival's closing film.

The Girl from the Other Side is based on Nagabe's The Girl from the Other Side: Siúil, a Rún (Totsukuni no Shōjo) manga. The anime will have a DVD that will bundle with the limited edition of the manga's eighth compiled book volume on September 10 in Japan. Yūtarō Kubo and Satomi Tani are directing the anime at Wit Studio (Attack on Titan, Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress, The Ancient Magus' Bride). The studio will test a type of animation that uses a "new expression technique."

Additionally, the event will screen the world premiere of Kiyotaka Oshiyama's Shishigari anime short, and Oshiyama (Flip Flappers) himself will be in attendance.

Studio Durian describes the short:

Deep in the northern mountains, there are people who have been living with the blessings of the mountains. A boy, who is coming of age, journeys into the mountains for his first hunt. He must find the "Kuroshishi." The mountain is a world where life and death are divided by a paper-thin line. Sometimes, nature will show its fangs...

Other staff members include background artist Kevin Aymeric (Ping Pong), compositor and editor Yoichi Senzui (The Wind Rises, The Tale of the Princess Kaguya), composer Kenji Kawai (Patlabor, Ghost in the Shell, Gundam 00), sound director Kazuhiro Wakabayashi (Princess Mononoke, Jin-Roh - The Wolf Brigade), and Kaori Yamada (Mitsuboshi Colors, Hanebad!) for sound effects.

This year's festival will be held from July 11 through August 1.
