2019 Anpanman Film Opens at #4

The live-action film of Katsuhisa Minami's The Fable manga dropped from #2 to #3 in its second weekend. The film sold 164,000 tickets over the weekend, and earned 227,039,300 yen (about US$2.09 million) from Friday to Sunday. The film has sold a total of 700,000 tickets, and earned a cumulative total of 935,868,300 yen (about US$8.63 million).

The film ranked #2 in its opening weekend. The film sold 296,492 tickets for 396,614,500 yen (about US3.711 million) in its first three days. The Eiga.com website reports that the film is projected to earn over 2.5 billion yen (about US23.3 million) by the end of its run.

The film opened in Japan on June 21. Kan Eguchi directed the film and Yūsuke Watanabe wrote the script.

Soreike! Anpanman Kirameke! Ice no Kuni no Vanilla-hime (Let's go! Anpanman: Sparkle! Princess Vanilla of the Land of Ice Cream), the 31st anime film in the Anpanman anime franchise, sold 104,826 tickets and earned 125,512,500 yen (about US$1.15 million) during Saturday and Sunday to rank #4 in its first weekend. The film sold a total of 114,901 tickets to earn 137,067,500 yen (about US$1.26 million) from Friday to Sunday, and earned 70 million yen (about US$650,700) of that amount on Sunday alone. The film earned .04% more in its opening weekend than last year's Soreike! Anpanman Kagayake! Kurun to Inochi no Hoshi film.

Legendary Pictures' Godzilla sequel film Godzilla: King of the Monsters film dropped from stayed at #5 in its fifth weekend. It earned 77,165,900 yen (about US$712,100) from Friday to Sunday, and earned a cumulative total of 2,622,411,100 yen (about US$24.20 million) so far. The film opened in 431 theaters on May 31, and sold 479,000 tickets and earned 677 million yen (about US$6.27 million) in its opening weekend.

The film earned an estimated US$49 million in the United State, and a total of US$179 million during its opening weekend worldwide.

Uta no Prince Sama Maji Love Kingdom, the anime film in the Uta no Prince Sama franchise, rose back up from #7 to #6 in its third weekend.

The film sold more than 100,000 tickets and earned 222.7 million yen (about US$2.05 million) in its opening weekend. The film opened in Japan on June 14. Sentai Filmworks licensed the film, and the film will have a premiere screening on July 5 at this year's Anime Expo event. Voice actors Takuma Terashima (Otoya Ittoki) and Mamoru Miyano (Tokiya Ichinose) will be in attendance. Sentai Filmworks will also screen the film in U.S. theaters at a later date.

The second film in the six-part Girls und Panzer das Finale film series dropped out of the top 10 in its third weekend.

Masaaki Yuasa and Science SARU's Ride Your Wave (Kimi to, Nami ni Noretara) anime film dropped out of the top 10 in its second weekend, but still earned 41,853,800 yen (about US$385,900) from Friday to Sunday. It has earned a cumulative total of 173,345,000 yen (about US$1.59 million).

The film ranked at #9 in its opening weekend. The film opened in Japan on June 21. It won the Best Animation Film award at the Shanghai International Film Festival's Golden Goblet Awards. Reiko Yoshida (Lu over the wall, A Silent Voice, Liz and the Blue Bird) wrote the film's script, and Michiru Oshima (Patema Inverted, The Night is Short Walk On, Girl) composed the music. GENERATIONS from EXILE TRIBE performed the theme song "Brand New Story."

Rascal Does Not Dream of a Dreaming Girl (Seishun Buta Yarō wa Yume-Miru Shōjo no Yume wo Minai), the anime film based on Hajime Kamoshida's Seishun Buta Yarō light novel series, dropped out of the top 10 in its third weekend. The film still earned 47,872,000 yen (about US$441,400) from Friday to Sunday, and has earned a cumulative total of 314,471,040 yen (about US$2.90 million).

The film debuted at #7 in its opening weekend. The film opened in Japan on June 15, and it sold 66,000 tickets for 100 million yen (about US$900,000) in its first two days. Aniplex of America will host the United States premiere of the film at Anime Expo on July 7.

Studio Trigger and XFlag's original anime film Promare is out of the top 10, but still earned 41,981,700 yen (about US$387,100), for a cumulative total of 731,241,900 yen (about US$6.74 million).

The Frame Arms Girl: Kyakkyau Fufu na Wonderland anime film opened at #1 in the mini-theater rankings. The film is a compilation film with new added footage, and opened in Japan on June 29.

Cencoroll Connect, the special joint screening of Uki's first Cencoroll film short and the Cencoroll 2 sequel, opened at #2 in the mini-theater rankings. Aniplex of America will screen Cencoroll Connect at Anime Expo on July 4.
