ATASHIn'CHI Manga Returns After 7 Years With New Serialization

Eiko Kera drew manga for 17 years in Yomiuri Shimbun

Manga creator Eiko Kera announced on Friday that she will launch a new serialization for her ATASHIn'CHI manga at the end of December, seven years after she originally ended the manga. The official "ATASHIn'CHI Best" website will reveal the details of where and when the manga will start on December 20.

The manga will also get a five-volume compilation of selected chapters, the first two of which will ship on December 20, and the last three of which will ship on January 20.

When Kera ended the manga in March 2012, she had been drawing it in the Sunday edition of the Yomiuri Shimbun newspaper since 1994, for 17 years and 10 months. The manga follows the everyday life of a high school girl named Mikan and her family — her homemaker mother (pictured at right), her salaryman father, and her younger brother Yuzuhiko. The manga has 21 compiled book volumes.

The manga already inspired a television anime series that aired from 2002 to 2009. There was also an ATASHIn'CHI film that premiered in 2003, along with a 40-minute 3D ATASHIn'CHI film in 2010. A new television anime series titled Shin ATASHIn'CHI premiered in October 2015, and ended in April 2016. Crunchyroll streamed the series as it aired in Japan.
