Ghost in the Shell Anime Film's 4K Remaster Opens in Hong Kong on March 11

Hong Kong film distributor Edko Films announced last Friday that it will screen a 4K theatrical remaster of Mamoru Oshii's 1995 Ghost in the Shell anime film in Hong Kong on March 11. Edko Films is streaming a Chinese- and English-subtitled trailer for the screening.

One of the most influential Japanese anime of all time, Oshii Mamoru's groundbreaking vision of a futuristic Hong Kong has spawned a vast franchise of films, manga and TV series that continues to this day. This highly-anticipated 4K restoration of the 1995 classic hits theaters again!In the year 2029, advances in cybernetic technology allowed people to replace body parts and organs for robotic ones. Even the brain could be replaced with a cyber-brain with the ability to gain access to the internet and different networks. Major Motoko Kusanagi, a cyborg agent working for the government, and her team have been given the assignment to track down the notorious hacker known as ‘The Puppetmaster’ and uncover his plans. Her mission explores the escalating synergy between humanity and technology, while questioning the very essence of sentient existence.
Oshii and Production I.G's 1995 film is based on Masamune Shirow's manga of the same name. Oshii directed the Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence 2004 film as a sequel.
Production I.G produced the 2002 Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex television anime and its TV sequel, original video anime (OVAs), and film. In 2013, Production I.G adapted the material into the Ghost in the Shell Arise prequel OVA, which it later remixed into a television series. Most recently, the studio debuted Ghost in the Shell: The New Movie in 2015 and the Ghost in the Shell VR Diver smartphone video in 2017.
Ghost in the Shell: SAC_2045, the new 3D CG Ghost in the Shell anime, debuted on Netflix worldwide in April 2020.
DreamWorks and Paramount's live-action film adaptation starring Scarlett Johansson opened in the United States in March 2017, and opened in Japan in April 2017.
