Honami Yano's "A Bite of Bone" Animated Short Wins Award at Ottawa Int'l Animation Festival

Yoriko Mizushiri's "Anxious Body," Mari Miyazawa's "Konigiri-kun: Concert" shorts also win awards

The Ottawa International Animation Festival (OIAF) announced on Friday that Honami Yano's "Honekami" ("A Bite of Bone") short animation won the Grand Prize for Short Animation in the event's 45th anniversary. Yoriko Mizushiri's "Fuan na Tai" ("Anxious Body") short won the Best Non-Narrative Animation award and Mari Miyazawa's "Konigiri-kun: Concert" short won a special mention in the Animation for Young Audiences (Preschool) Competition.

OIAF Virtual Cinema website describes "A Bite of Bone":

A little girl reflects on her last summer with her father at his funeral. Set on a small island in Japan where the director was born and raised, the film explores the relationship between the death of her father and the bomb storage in the mountain behind the family house.

Honami Yano directed the short and wrote the screenplay. Koji Yamamura produced the short.

The jury comment for the entry stated:

This film was made on top of traditional techniques. But it has the power to lead us in a new direction. In an image composed of dots, we freely cross places and memories as if we are all small dots. After looking at the work, we can see why the director used these techniques. And it leaves a long lingering impression.

Studio 4°C's Fortune Favors Lady Nikuko anime film competed in the Animated Feature category, but Cesar Cabral's Bob Spit - We Do Not Like People won the award.

The event took place from September 22 to October 3.
