New works, animated/live-action adaptations of hits to start rolling out in 2024

Toei Animation announced on Tuesday that it is forming a business partnership with South Korean film company CJ Entertainment to plan and produce live-action and animated content aimed the global market, particularly in Southeast Asia, North America, and Europe. The companies plan to start releasing works together in 2024. The partnership aims to create three kinds of content: entirely new works, animated adaptations of previous hits, and live-action adaptations of previous hits.

CJ Entertainment funded and distributed the Oscar-winning film Parasite, as well as such films and television series as On the LINE and Crash Landing On You in South Korea.

Founded in 1948 as Nihon Doga, and acquired by film production company Toei in 1956 and renamed to Toei Doga, and later as Toei Animation, the animation studio has produced some of anime's most well-known shows, including Panda and the Magic Serpent, Mazinger Z, Dragon Ball Z, Galaxy Express 999, Sailor Moon, One Piece, and the Precure series.
