Alliance for "Super Game" initiative on how games get built, hosted, operated

Sega announced on Monday that it is forming a strategic alliance with Microsoft. Through the alliance, Sega aims to produce large-scale, global games in a next-generation development environment on Microsoft's Azure cloud platform. The alliance will allow Sega to move forward with its new "Super Game" initiative for developing new titles with a focus on "Global," "Online," "Community," and "IP utilization." The initiative is part of Sega's mid- to long-term strategy.

Sega and Microsoft are looking to build further technological evolutions, with a priority on network infrastructure and communication tools required for global online services, through mutual cooperation. Sega will also adapt to diversifying work styles and infrastructural changes by shifting to a next-generation development platform. By working with Microsoft, Sega aims to optimize development processes using Azure cloud technologies and anticipate trends as they accelerate.

President and COO of SEGA Corporation Yukio Sugino stated that the alliance will utilize "both SEGA's powerful game development capabilities and Microsoft's cutting-edge technology and development environment."

CVP of Microsoft Corporation Sarah Bond said that this alliance will allow them to "reimagine how games get built, hosted, and operated, with a goal of adding more value to players and SEGA alike."
