Company's Senior VP Nick Chavez steps down

Nintendo of America confirmed in a statement to news website Kotaku on Friday that the company will be closing its offices in Redwood City, California and Toronto, Ontario and that its Senior Vice President of sales and marketing Nick Chavez will be stepping down. The company stated that it will be moving more employees from these "small satellite offices" to its offices in Redmond, Washington and Vancouver, British Columbia.

The company also announced that Executive Vice President of business affairs and publisher relations Devon Pritchard will take up interim leadership of sales, marketing, and communications.

Kotaku reported that according to its sources, Nintendo's California office closing displaced about 100 employees.

Nintendo released the new OLED model of its Nintendo Switch console on October 8.

The hybrid home and handheld console debuted on March 3, 2017. As of June 30, Nintendo has moved a total of 89.04 million Switch units worldwide, surpassing the Nintendo 3DS and Game Boy Advance's lifetime numbers. The Switch is the company's fourth best-selling console behind the Nintendo DS, Nintendo Wii, and Game Boy.
