Free London Screenings of Satoshi Kon's Paprika on October 19

posted on by Andrew Osmond
Venue will also have free screenings of Perfect Blue in November and Tokyo Godfathers in December

The Japan House London will present a free screening of the 2006 film Paprika (left), the final feature film completed by Satoshi Kon, on Wednesday October 19 at 6.30 p.m.

Tickets must be booked at the link above. The film is described on the Japan House website:

"Based on the science fiction novel by Tsutsui Yasutaka, Paprika explores the themes of the subconsciousness and the relationship between the realms of dream and reality. It tells the story of Dr Chiba Atsuko, a genius scientist by day, and a dream warrior named Paprika by night. In the near future, a revolutionary new psychotherapy treatment has been invented. Through a special device therapists can enter people's dreams and explore their unconscious thoughts…

"Kon's psychedelic film overpowers the viewer with its visual grandeur, inviting the audience to indulge in its eccentric world. Following the heroine into two realms, it demands constant switching between aesthetics and images, varying from detailed, ultrarealistic urban panoramas to whimsical characters derived from popular culture, Japanese tradition and the surreal imperia of nightmares and dreams."

The Japan House London will also hold free screenings of Satoshi Kon's Perfect Blue on November 13 and 30, and Tokyo Godfathers on December 11 and 20, although the booking links for these films are not working as of writing.
