Edinburgh Scotland Loves Anime Festival Will Screen Her Blue Sky

posted on by Andrew Osmond
Screening on October 29; also, the festival's online screenings are now available, as are the remaining Edinburgh tickets at the Cameo Picturehouse cinema

The Scotland Loves Anime festival has confirmed that one of the "Mystery Films" listed for screening in Edinburgh is Her Blue Sky (Sora no Aosa o Shiru Hito yo), the original anime film by the Super Peace Busters creative team. Tatsuyuki Nagai directed the film, Mari Okada wrote it and Masayoshi Tanaka was the character designer. The screening will take place on Saturday October 29 at 3 p.m.

In other festival updates, the remaining tickets for the Edinburgh screenings are now available here. The Edinburgh screenings have moved venue to the Cameo Picturehouse cinema after the Edinburgh Filmhouse cinema stopped trading. All tickets that were bought before the change of venue are still valid, but seating for the screenings is now unallocated.

In addition, the festival's online screening section is now accessible here until Wednesday October 30. Online passes are £10, or £8 with concessions. The following anime are available in this section: BELLE, Birthday Wonderland, Cyber City Oedo 808, Fireworks, Should We See it from the Side or the Bottom?, Josee, The Tiger and the Fish, Memories, Millennium Actress, Patlabor 2: The Movie, Perfect Blue, A Silent Voice, Tamako Love Story and your name.

The story of Her Blue Sky is set in a town nestled in the mountains. It centres on second-year high school student and aspiring musician Aoi Aioi, her older sister Akane Aioi, Akane's ex-boyfriend and struggling guitarist Shinnosuke Kanomura, and Shinno — who is actually Shinnosuke from 13 years ago after traveling from the past to the present.

Aoi and Akane's parents passed away in an accident 13 years ago, and Akane gave up her ambition of going to Tokyo with Shinnosuke to take care of Aoi. Since then, Aoi has felt indebted to her older sister. One day, she is invited to perform at a music festival as a session musician by a famous enka singer named Dankichi. At the same time, Shinnosuke returns to Aoi and Akane's town after a long time away. Then, Shinno mysteriously appears, and Aoi falls in love for the first time.

Yaeko Ninagawa (Ghost Slayers Ayashi) also launched a manga adaptation of the film on Kadokawa's Comic Newtype web comic site. Shion Wakayama, Riho Yoshioka, and Ryō Yoshizawa star in the film.
