The Dungeon of Black Company and Ranking of Kings Released Monday

posted on by Andrew Osmond
Also Collector's Blu-ray of Samurai 7 and the second chapter of Princess Principal: Crown Handler

On Monday November 28, Crunchyroll will release The Dungeon of Black Company as a DVD, a Blu-ray and a Limited Blu-ray/DVD edition. The Blu-ray/DVD will include a 60-page art book, six art cards, a business card holder and a sticker sheet.

Seven Seas Entertainment publishes the manga in English, and it describes the story:

Kinji, who lacks any kind of work ethic, is a layabout in his modern life. One day, he finds himself transported to another world–but not in a grand fantasy of a hero welcomed with open arms. He's immediately shoved into a terrible job! Now enslaved by an evil mining company in a fantasy world, Kinji's about to really learn the meaning of hard work!

Mirai Minato (Masamune-kun's Revenge, Fate/kaleid liner Prisma Illya) directed the anime at SILVER LINK., and Deko Akao (Snow White with the Red Hair, Noragami, Flying Witch) oversaw the series scripts. Yuki Sawairi (Masamune-kun's Revenge, Wise Man's Grandchild) designed the characters, and Taku Inoue composed the music at Toy's Factory.

Crunchyroll will also release Ranking of Kings Season 1 Part 1 in a Blu-ray/DVD edition, carrying the first eleven episodes. It is the television anime version of Sōsuke Tōka's Ranking of Kings (Ōsama Ranking) manga.

The story centres around Bojji, a deaf, powerless prince who cannot even wield a children's sword. As the firstborn son, he strives hard and dreams of becoming the world's greatest king. However, people mutter about him behind his back as "a good-for-nothing prince" and "no way he can be king."

Bojji is able to make his first ever friend, "Kage" (shadow) — a literal shadow on the ground who somehow understands Bojji well. The story follows Bojji's coming-of-age as he meets various people in his life, starting with his fateful encounter with Kage.

Yousuke Hatta (One-Punch Man episode director, Boogiepop and Others assistant director) directed the anime at Wit Studio, with Arifumi Imai as assistant director. Taku Kishimoto (91 Days, Fruits Basket 2019, Moriarty the Patriot) was in charge of the series scripts. Atsuko Nozaki (Tokyo Magnitude 8.0, The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky) designed the characters, while Masaki Kawake was the sub-character designer. Both were credited as chief animation directors. Yūji Kaneko was the art director, while Kazushi Fujii handled the art setting.

MVM will release a Collector's Blu-ray edition of Studio Gono's 2004 26-part series Samurai 7, containing seven art cards. The series is a futuristic remake of Akira Kurosawa's 1954 live-action film Seven Samurai. MVM describes the story:

"Set in a futuristic world that has just witnessed the end of a massive war, scores of villages are terrorized by Nobuseri bandits. But the Nobuseri are no normal bandits. They were once Samurai, who during the war integrated their living cells with machines to become dangerous weapons now appearing more machine than man. Absolute power corrupts, and their reign of terror is increasing its hold on the countryside. But one group of villagers has had enough, deciding to hire samurai to protect their village."

MVM will also release the second chapter of Princess Principal: Crown Handler, the series of film sequels to the original Princess Principal TV series. MVM describes the second film's story:

"It's open hunting season for Royals when assassins strike again. Now Team White Pigeon's priorities must be split between locating the deadly Cavorite bombs smuggled into the country and protecting Princess Charlotte's sister Mary, the next in line… which, given that Charlotte herself is also a target and currently posing as White Pigeon's Ange, only redoubles the peril she's already found herself in."
