Ghibliotheque London Screenings of Metropolis and Animatrix in September

The hosts of the Ghibliotheque podcast, Michael Leader and Jake Cunningham, will present two anime cinema screenings in September.
The BFI IMAX cinema in London, near Waterloo station, will screen Rintarō's 2001 film Metropolis (pictured right), at 11.30 a.m on Sunday September 17.
Metropolis is described on the BFI IMAX website as follows:
"Set in a futuristic city at the height of its civilisation, Metropolis tells the story of Tima - a beautiful and mysterious female who does not realise that she is a humanoid robot. It is Tima who must discover her true self and begin to bridge the gap between the humans and humanoid robots of Metropolis. She must also stop Metropolis's dark dictator Reddoko and save the entire city... Written, directed and inspired by some of the best names in both anime, manga and science fiction this version of Metropolis is one to be experienced on the UK's largest screen."
The Prince Charles cinema, on Leicester Square, will screen the 2003 anthology Animatrix on Tuesday September 26 at 8.45 p.m., in a 35mm print. Spun off from the Matrix film, the anthology includes contributions by Shinichiro Watanabe, Yoshiaki Kawajiri, Kōji Morimoto ahd Mahiro Maeda. From the Prince Charles Cinema website:
"Released in tandem with The Matrix Reloaded, this dazzling anthology of nine short films digs deeper into the universe of The Matrix and pays tribute to the mind-expanding anime that first inspired the Wachowski siblings....
Apart from two shorts helmed by US-based filmmakers – ‘Matriculated’, written and directed by Aeon Flux creator Peter Chung and ‘The Final Flight of the Osiris’, directed by Oscar-winning VFX veteran Andy Jones – The Animatrix serves as a showcase for both legendary and rising-star talent from the world of Japanese animation.
