The Japan Foundation's Indian Instagram account announced on Saturday its schedule for its Northeast Japan Caravan event in Kohima, Nagaland and will screen the Okko's Inn (Waka Okami wa Shōgakusei!) anime film on February 9 at 11:30 a.m. IST. It will screen Studio 4°C's anime film of Daisuke Igarashi's Children of the Sea (Kaijū no Kodomo) manga (film pictured at right) on the same day at 3:10 p.m. IST.

The event will screen Hiroyasu Ishida and Studio Colorido's Penguin Highway anime film on February 10 at 11:15 a.m. IST. It will screen Masaaki Yuasa's Ride Your Wave anime film on the same day at 3:35 p.m. IST.

The Japan Foundation hosted its Northeast Japan Caravan event in Shillong from December 16-17, 2022 and in Guwahati from January 21-22, 2023. It hosted the event in Imphal from November 19-20, 2022 and in Dimapur from February 3-4, 2023.

Okko's Inn opened in Japan in September 2018, and is based on writer Hiroko Reijō and artist Asami's juvenile literature series. The books also inspired a 24-episode television anime that premiered in April 2018 on TV Tokyo and five other affiliates. The film tells a story not told in either the original book series or the television series — specifically, a story about "Okko" and her parents.

Children of the Sea opened in Japan in June 2019 and ranked at #5 in its opening weekend.

Penguin Highway opened in Japan in August 2018 and ranked #10 in its opening weekend. The film won the "Axis: The Satoshi Kon Award for Excellence in Animation" award for Best Animated Feature at Montreal's Fantasia International Film Festival in July 2018. The film was also nominated for the Animated Theatrical Film Category of the VFX-Japan Awards.

Ride Your Wave opened in Japan in June 2019 and ranked at #9 in its opening weekend. The film won the Best Animation Film award at the Shanghai International Film Festival's Golden Goblet Awards in June 2020, and it also won the "Axis: The Satoshi Kon Award for Excellence in Animation" award for Best Animated Feature in Montreal's Fantasia International Film Festival in July 2019. The anime screened in competition at Annecy International Animation Film Festival in France in June 2019. The film won the Award for Best Animated Feature Film at the 52nd annual Sitges International Fantastic Film Festival in Spain in October 2019. The film then screened at the 39th annual Hawai'i International Film Festival in November 2019.
