Tokyopop hires Rene Garcia as new VP of Film & Television

TOKYOPOP INC. TAPS INDUSTRY VET RENÉ GARCÍA TO FURTHER
FORAY INTO FILM & TELEVISION

Former Wes Craven Production Prez Brings Over 20 Years
of Production and Development Experience

Los Angeles, CA (May 18, 2004)--Expanding its plans to
take manga to the big screen and beyond, TokyoPop Inc.
has added ammunition to its film/television
department's arsenal. The leading U.S. publisher of
Japanese-inspired graphic novels has enlisted former
Craven-Maddalena President of Production René M. García as VP, Film
& Television. This move is a natural progression for
the company, which has already realized manga's huge
commercial potential in book publishing. Now, TOKYOPOP
plans to produce and package the format's fresh
narrative energy for Hollywood, and García--along with
Executive Director of Development Steve Galloway--will help
lead that charge.

"Manga's kinetic storytelling style and
ever-increasing popularity put TOKYOPOP at the vanguard of a
revolution in the entertainment industry," said García. "I
can't imagine a cooler assignment than helping to bring
the power of this character-driven art form to the
screen."

With producing credits that most recently include a
remake of The Lavender Hill Mob in development with
director Dean Parisot, García's extensive entertainment
experience spans more than 20 years in film and
television production and development. Prior to joining
TOKYOPOP, García produced feature projects for his Alomar
Drive Pictures, and headed Craven-Maddalena's production
and development. His impressive background also
includes senior executive posts with Spelling Films and MTV:
Music Television.

"René has the perfect blend of film and television
know-how to take us to the next level," said TOKYOPOP
President & COO, John Parker. "We are delighted to have
him on our team."
