Seven Seas Presents Boogiepop Commercials

SEVEN SEAS PRESENTS BOOGIEPOP COMMERCIALS

(Los Angeles, January 17, 2006) – Seven Seas Entertainment has unveiled what fandom thought they'd never see: the first of MediaWorks' fully-animated Boogiepop commercials subtitled in English and available for free online.

In Japan, Boogiepop novel publisher MediaWorks produced a series of commercials to help promote the release of several of the novels from Kouhei Kadono's unforgettable series. Much like the character of Boogiepop himself, these commercials have become the stuff of urban legend. Featuring fully animated short clip sequences pulled directly from the novels and using Keiji Ogata's own character designs, each commercial is a visually eye-catching tour de force that surpasses the animation quality seen in Boogiepop Phantom. To quote issue 85 of Anime News Network's Protoculture Addicts, "These ads never made it across the Pacific with either [the anime] Boogiepop Phantom or [the movie] Boogiepop and Others, and probably never will."

Until now, that is.

“The second I found out these Boogiepop commercials existed, being the deep-rooted otaku that I am, I begged that we somehow try and get a hold of them,” says Adam Arnold, senior editor in charge of licensed manga at Seven Seas. “You can imagine my surprise when I heard that we got the green light. This is the coolest 30 seconds of animation you'll ever see.”

The first 30 second commercial spotlighting Seven Seas' February 2006 release of Kouhei Kadono's Boogiepop and Others novel is viewable at Seven Seas Entertainment's web site Gomanga.com.
