American Red Cross Invites You to Help Save a Life When You Visit The Anime Expo

Anime Expo®'s Response to National Tragedies Offers Attendees A Chance to Win a $500 Gas Card and Other Cool Items

Anaheim, California (June 22, 2006) – The Anime Expo®, The Society for the Promotion of Japanese Animation (SPJA), and the Southern California American Red Cross Blood Services Region invite you to give the gift of life and donate blood when you visit the Anime Expo® at the Anaheim Convention Center this July 1, 2, or 3, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Appointments for the blood drive can be made by logging on to www.givelife.org and entering the sponsor code “Anime.” Walk-in appointments are also accepted.

According to Cliff Numark, director of donor recruitment with the American Red Cross, “The Anime Expo® is a huge convention of gamers and animators with 52,000+ attendees expected throughout the four days of the Expo. We were very pleased when they (SPJA) requested that we work with them to run a blood drive three of the four days of their convention.”

“We are proud and honored to partake in such a great cause this year, and we encourage as many attendees to donate blood to the Red Cross and help save lives” states Joyce Lim Anime Expo® Chairwoman. As a thank you to everyone who makes an appointment for the blood drive or comes to the convention center to donate, the American Red Cross will provide a coupon from Wahoo's Fish Taco. In addition, people who sign up to donate will have their name placed in a raffle for a chance to win a $500 gas card.

“The American Red Cross Southern California Blood Services Region is projecting a severe deficit of blood this summer,” explains Numark. “We are working to ensure that enough blood will be available for the hundreds of patients in our communities who need blood and blood products to survive accidents, heart transplants, sickle cell anemia treatments and other ailments.”

“Most people in good health aged 17 and over and weighing at least 110 pounds can donate blood. Unfortunately, few people realize the grave need or the constant need for donations to ensure an adequate blood supply. Therefore, we are urging individuals who are able to donate to visit the Red Cross booth at the Anime Expo®, or go to www.givelife.org and help save a life.”
