June 30 last day for Ai-Kon advance pass price

Anime convention attendees also asked to bring a "Tin for the BIN" for
Winnipeg Harvest

Winnipeg, MB - June 22, 2006 - Friday, June 30 marks the final day
Ai-Kon 2006 week-end passes will be available at their advance price
of $29 plus agency fees.

As of July 1, passes for the three-day anime convention are $39 plus
agency fees and available through TicketMaster. Individual day passes
are available only on their respective days. Full details are
available at www.ai-kon.org.

Ai-Kon attendees are also asked to bring a "Tin For the BIN" to the
convention, with all donations going to Winnipeg Harvest. For each
non-perishable food item they bring, donators will received one entry
in an end-of-convention prize draw.

Other activities planned for this year's convention, scheduled for
July 21, 22 and 23 at the Winnipeg Convention Centre, include 24-hour
anime showings, panels, video games, contests, fan art, a vendor's
room, and cosplay ("costume play" - dressing as an anime/video game
character).

ABOUT AI-KON: Ai-Kon is Manitoba's largest anime convention. An
all-ages event, the goal of Ai-Kon is the promotion of Japanese/Asian
animation and culture to the public. In 2005 approximately 960 people
attended Ai-Kon, and organizers anticipate attendance numbers of 1,000
to 1,200 for this year's convention.
Started by the University of Manitoba Japanese Animation Club
(UMAnime) in 2001, Ai-Kon took a reorganizational hiatus in 2002,
returning in 2003. Ai-Kon has since become an autonomous event, run
by an independent volunteer board. "Ai" means "love" in Japanese,
hence Ai-Kon's slogan "For the Love of Anime".

ABOUT ANIME: Anime is Japanese animation, and is known for its wide
range of styles and genres. Anime has grown exponentially in
popularity in North America in the last 10 years, with an
ever-increasing list of titles licensed for North American
distribution. Popular anime titles include Naruto, Fruits Basket,
Neon Genesis Evangelion, Fullmetal Alchemist, and Sailor Moon.
