DC Anime Club's Cosplay Contest at the 3rd Annual Anime Art Show

All Cosplayers Welcomed

The DC Anime Club, an organization whose purpose is to educate the Washington, DC community about East Asian culture through the art form known as Anime (Japanese animation) will host an Cosplay (Costume Play) Contest during the 3rd Annual Anime Art Show on November 10, 2007 at the Martin Luthur King, Jr Memorial Library 901 G St NW Washington, DC 20020 in Room A5 (A Level of the Library). Sign up for the Cosplay Contest will be from 12:00pm-2:00pm and the Cosplay Contest begins at 3:00pm.

Rules for The Cosplay Contest:
Here are the Cosplay Contest Rules:
1. This competition is open to all who have a costume that is related to characters or styles from any one of the following catergories:
Anime
Manga
Video Games
J-Pop/J-Rock
Live-Action Jap. TV and/or Movies
EGL/EGA (Elegant Gothic Lolita/Elegant Gothic Aristocrat)
Japanese Street Fashion

2. If the costume was made by you, you will have a better chance of winning than someone who bought their costume.

3. You must have a reference photo(s) for your costume. The DCAC Cosplay Coordinator does not care how popular the series is, or how well-known the character is. No reference material equals loss of points towards your score.

4. There will be no biased judging, regardless or age, gender, religion, etc. ad nauseum.
Even though the DC Anime Club Cosplay Coordinator is a guy, he will go for the extremely intricate bulky armor cosplayer over the scantily clad cosplayer.

Decision for Costume Contest winners will be based on four key things:
Detail- precise workmanship in making the costume as exact as possible to reference
Flow- how the costume reacts to the wearer while in movement
Effort- time and work placed into making costume or modifying previously manufactured costume
and
Overall Attitude- dedication to the costume you are in, as far as making you become the character.

Other Activities for the Art Show Opening includes Video Gaming, raffle, prizes and more.

About DC Anime Club:
DCAC was established in 2003 to introduce and educate people in the Washington, DC area about East Asian culture, through viewing and discussion of Japanese animation (also known as anime) and Japanese comics (manga). DCAC is a 501(c)(3) not for profit organization, contributions to DC Anime Club are tax deductible to the extent allowable under the law.

The club also works to provide a positive, alternative activity to the youth in the area by exposing them to foreign culture, encouraging artistic expression and creativity, and providing opportunities for participation in community activities and leadership.

In addition to our weekly meetings, the club holds an Annual Art Show, an Annual Costume fundraising event, and visits local schools to do presentations on anime. The club also works with the Smithsonian Freer Gallery and DC Asian Pacific American Film Festival on their anime screenings, and has helped locally promote performances for Japanese bands such as Puffy Ami Yumi and Pine am.

DC Anime Club was founded by Chris Wanamaker (President), Jules Chang (Vice President) and Craig Vaughn (Sgt in Arms) on Saturday June 5, 2003. We have a strong membership that continues to grow -- most of which are teenagers.
