McClain, VA, March 9– TenBu Productions has announced that their annual event, Akiba Fest: Pop The Rock Japan Music Showcase (PTRJMS), will be an official participant of the National Cherry blossom Festival as an evening event feature and do partial participation in the Japan‐America Society of Washington DC's “Sakura Matsuri ‐ Japanese Street Festival's” J‐Pop Land on April 4,2009. Akiba Fest is presenting their PTRJMS attending artists, which includes the Anime theme Artists, Psychic Lover (Witchblade), unicorn table (School Rumble), Sister MAYO (Project R) (Master of Mosquito), Takayoshi Tanimoto (Project R) (Prince of Tennis), and Shing02 (Samurai Champloo), at the Sakura Matsuri ‐ Japanese Street Festival's J‐Pop Land to make a small appearance and be available to meet fans and sign merchandise. It is possible that there will also be a small preview performance.
Listed as an Official Participating Event during the National Cherry blossom Festival, this is the first time Akiba Fest has participated in the “Sakura Matsuri ‐ Japanese Street Festival.” Running from 11AM to 6PM on April 4, 2009, it is the most popular event at the Cherry blossom Festival and is the largest Japanese Festival in the United States. This huge one‐day event shuts down a one‐mile stretch of Downtown Washington, DC, with over 140,000 visitors from around the nation attending, giving Akiba‐ Fest its largest exposure to date. In recent years the Sakura Matsuri-Japanese Street Festival has been making strides to promote more Japanese Pop culture and include Anime and Manga related features. So far very successful and a dominant attraction at the 6 block, mile and a half stretch of the festival, the “J-POP LAND” area and stage where the PTRJMS entertainers will be featured has featured manga libraries, anime panels, and concerts by popular Japanese artists. On the same day, at 5PM, the Akiba Fest: Pop The Rock Japan Music Showcase will begin their feature Concert event at the University of Maryland's Samuel Riggs IV Alumni Center featuring all of the PTRJMS artists mentioned plus Asian pop music DJ, “DJ ASU” and local entertainment illustration group “Super Art Fight”. In addition to the music, there will also be giveaways, vendors, entertainer signings, and other entertainment.
