Wai-Con Changes 2012 Theme Due to Japanese Earthquake

WAI-CON CHANGES 2012 THEME DUE TO JAPANESE EARTHQUAKE

(Perth, Western Australia - April 9 2010 ) During PAniC's (Perth Anime Convention, Inc) first General Meeting of the year, the incoming committee have decided to alter the theme of Wai-Con 2012. Originally ‘2012 Apocalypse’, recent natural disasters inflicting Japan have swayed PAniC to alter it so as to not offend during this time of crisis.

The original theme was conceived back in August 2010 before the Tohoku Earthquake with thought going towards the apocalyptic setting of anime series. Combined with the popular 2012 “end of days” prediction, “Apocalypse” was decided through a popular vote. However after consulting with marketing specialists and the general public, it was felt that it would be “insensitive” to proceed with that theme.

Through popular vote at today's meeting, Wai-Con is now going to be themed as “Wai-Con 2012 Invasion”.

ABOUT WAI-CON: Wai-Con (http://www.wai-con.org) is Perth's premier anime convention that has been running since 2004. With attractions such as cosplay, special guests, artwork and local cultural exhibits, Wai-Con has attracted 3679 attendees in 2011. Wai-Con is traditionally held the last week of January.
