Anime Expo 2012 - The Brands Boutique Launches POP UP SHOP at the Expo

Showcases Kawaii Brands by Los Angeles Designers

LOS ANGELES, CA - June 14, 2012 - The Brands Boutique announced their next "L.A. Pop Up Shop" showcases this month at Anime Expo, North America's largest event for anime, manga, and Japanese pop culture celebration, when it returns to the Los Angeles Convention Center from June 29 - July 2, 2012.

The Brands Boutique Pop up Shop at Booth 339 and 341 features 10 established indie designers who are based in Los Angeles. Designers include Twinkie Chan whose crocheted accessory line Twinkie Chan! is featured in magazines such as Giant Robot, Glamour Italia, and Nickelodeon Magazine, as well as spots on the DIY Network and in the Hello Kitty 35th Anniversary fashion show in Los Angeles. Her book of quirky crochet patterns, "Twinkie Chan's Crochet Goodies for Fashion Foodies: 20 Yummy Treats to Wear," is published with Andrews McMeel Publishing.

Other brands include Funkey Monkey, a clothing and paper product line sold in Japanese pop culture stores like Happy Six on Sawtelle Boulevard, and Sawdust Bear Press, a publishing company started by artist Shing Khor, whose sculpted artwork has showcased at dozens of group exhibitions held at L.A. locations like Meltdown Comics, Los Angeles and Immortal Gallery, Downtown L.A.

The Brands Boutique Pop up Shop hosts daily booth events for attendees such as DIY workshops, photo booth portraits for cosplay participants, and interview spots in their “Anime Expo Wrap Up” video. This year, the pop up shop's products range from food jewelry by Cakelicious Couture and character mitts by Collisionware to kawaii hair bows by La Petite Deer, cute plush animals by Flat Bonnie, video game necklaces by Geeky Glamorous, and bike bells with pop culture inspired design by Spoke N Wheel, as well as crocheted "food" scarves by Twinkie Chan, graphic tees by Funkey Monkey, and comics by Sawdust Bear. Every product is handmade and locally crafted in Los Angeles and San Francisco.

Anime Expo 2012 takes place June 29 - July 2, 2012 at the Los Angeles Convention Center.
Convention hours are from 12:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. on Friday, 10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, and 10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. on Monday. Tickets for a one day pass range from $20 – 45 dollars.
