SMASH! is blasting back into Sydney

Sydney, NSW, 14 July 2012 – The countdown has begun to one of Australia's most celebrated, fun-filled anime conventions. With just one month away, SMASH! The Sydney Manga and Anime Show, Sydney's premier Japanese pop culture convention, is set for its biggest and best year yet.

SMASH! is an annual convention that brings together the best of the local art scene, thousands of manga and anime fans, cosplayers and top-class special guests from Australia and abroad. This year, we are proud to welcome a line-up of internationally-renowned, prolific guests: Shin-ichiro Miki (Bleach, Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood and Initial D), Yūko Miyamura (Evangelion, My-HiME, and Case Closed) and Sakura Tange (Cardcaptors Sakura).

This one-day event allows attendees to mingle with guests and artists, show off their creative talents via cosplay and competitions, gain unique access to workshops and panels, buy anime and manga-related merchandise, and relax at Sydney's authentic, Japanese-inspired Maid Cafe.

SMASH! President Thomas Munro believes there is no other anime convention in Australia that offers 'the full, authentic and educational experience of Japanese pop culture'.

“We host the Gunpla Gundam modelling competition every year, attract hundreds of cosplayers, offer art and anime-related events, and for the first time ever, one of our SMASH! guests, Yūko Miyamura, will be leading a Japanese voice acting workshop....It simply doesn't get better than that,” Munro said.

SMASH! will be once again at the Sydney Convention and Exhibition Centre (Darling Harbour) on Saturday, July 14. Advance tickets are currently on sale for $29 and door tickets may also be purchased on the day for $35. For more information, visit www.smash.org.au.
