Japanese Electronic Pioneers Boom Boom Satellites Release New Album Embrace

Japanese Electronic Pioneers BOOM BOOM SATELLITES Release New Album EMBRACE With Exclusive Remix for Europe

Marking their 15th anniversary, BOOM BOOM SATELLITES return to a European label with their eighth, most ambitious studio album to date: EMBRACE. Crafted in the wake of nuclear disaster, and followed by vocalist Kawashima's own battle with a tumour to the brain, the release sees the pioneering duo pushed to their absolute limits. Match that with a cover from The Beatles and the pressure is truly on.

Masayuki Nakano and Michiyuki Kawashima (BOOM BOOM SATELLITES) originally smashed out of Japan in 1997 when their demo caught the attention of R&S Records. Implementing elements of rock, electronica, acid jazz and breakbeat, their debut album was a breath of fresh air and the pair gained many fans, including Melody Maker who labelled them as ‘new prodigies’ and compared them to The Chemical Brothers. Soon BOOM BOOM SATELLITES were touring the world and rocking European festivals.

Skip to present day and the pair are amongst Japan's most respected musicians. They welcomed in their 15 years in music by holding a concert at the mighty Nippon Budokan arena, and broadcasting it live on YouTube, with a cutting edge 360-degree live stream.

BOOM BOOM SATELLITES' affair with the latest advancements in technology does not end here. The music video to EMBRACE's single BROKEN MIRROR was filmed live on Ustream and uses a futuristic ‘Scanning Control Live Projection’ system to create a dynamic and fascinating live environment that reacts to sound and movement. The track was also used as the theme tune to arguably Japan's most recognisable and established robot franchise; Gundam.

EMBRACE also proudly features BOOM BOOM SATELLITES' first cover song in their career; ‘HELTER SKELTER’, dragging the classic Beatles track into the 21st century with a heavy, electronic reimagining.

Masayuki Nakano comments, “It's not an obvious choice for a BBS cover. The Beatles are one of music's most iconic figures, so to cover one of their songs is not only an honour but also a challenge. It was great fun to push our own boundaries and leave our own mark on a classic song. It's The Beatles, but not like you've ever heard them before.”

EMBRACE by BOOM BOOM SATELLITES is out now across the UK, Europe and Russia from JPU Records. The physical version of the album includes an exclusive BBS remix from upcoming British producer SHUDAN that has never before been released. The album is also available digitally in America, Australia and other countries courtesy of Sony Music Japan.
