Sony Music Entertainment (Japan) Inc. and PRISM Project Announce Virtual Talent Rita Kamishiro Named Ambassador for National Alliance on Mental Illness
TOKYO, Japan – December 21st, 2022.
Virtual talent management agency PRISM Project announced the appointment of Rita Kamishiro as a virtual creator Ambassador with the United States-based National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI). As defined on the NAMI website, “NAMI Ambassadors are influencers in the entertainment industry, sports, literature, music and the arts. They are powerful partners who educate, advocate and fundraise, using their platforms and personality to help expand a national mental health movement that builds better lives.”
Kamishiro raised over $10,000 for NAMI live during her first charity stream hosted on May 14th, 2022 during Mental Health Awareness Month and an additional $4,000 during her second charity stream hosted on October 7th, 2022 during Mental Illness Awareness Week. Mental health awareness is a topic about which Kamishiro cares deeply: During her streams, she presents mental health topics through video games and talks with her audience about her own experiences. She is excited to continue educating, advocating, and fundraising for mental health awareness as a NAMI Ambassador. On a weekly basis, you can find Kamishiro streaming her progress as she actively works towards her goal of becoming an idol, playing a variety of games, or hosting her radio show, RKNGL Radio.
In recent years, mental health awareness has become an important theme for many content creators both online and offline, with YouTube and Twitch channels dedicated to discussing mental health such as HealthyGamerGG gaining popularity, as well as well-known streamers opening up about their own mental health struggles. “As the internet continues to be a prevalent part of our lives, we need to be mindful of its impact on us, and vice versa. Social media can be a powerful tool for lifting one another up, but only if we have a healthy relationship with it,” Kamishiro noted. “Through my platform, I want to encourage others to be everyday heroes not only for their community and loved ones, but for themselves as well. I hope that by sharing my experiences and nurturing a positive, open-minded community, others will feel empowered to inspire change around them. Becoming a NAMI ambassador is my commitment to giving back the kindness, patience, and grace that others have shown me in my life.”
NAMI is the largest grassroots mental health organization in the United States dedicated to helping people affected by mental illness build better lives through advocacy, education, support and public awareness. For 2022, NAMI worked to amplify the message “Together for Mental Health” to bring together voices to advocate for mental wellness.
