Cool Devices

Review:
Cool Devices VHS 5
Our fun reviews of the King of all Wank Films come to an end this month with the release of the final volume of Cool Devices. The series really has nothing left to prove at this point (having previously delved head-first into almost every imaginable taboo), and so perhaps that is the reason that this is easily the best volume in the series.

The first episode, "Binding", is somewhat of a spoogy Twilight Zone. Masaki Hoshino is a magazine writer on assignment, but when his backpack is stolen (along with his wallet), he bolts out of the train only to find everything except his wallet sitting on the sidewalk. There's no one around at all -- not even a train station attendant, so he decides to wait for the next train until an attractive girl offers him a place to stay, informing him that an earthquake had blocked the tracks. The odd thing? He was just dreaming of this girl, and they'd never met before.

The house she lives in, a mansion with three sisters (of which Miyuki is one), a maid, and a "mother" that has yet to show herself. When Masaki is showering that night, their maid Kana makes a pass, and hot sweaty monkey love ensues. He wakes up in bed, not sure if he was dreaming or not, but when he investigates the noise he hears down the hall, it's Kana being whipped (and forced to retain water) by the older sister, who asks him to join them! The next morning, he finds the two other sisters involved with each other and is asked to join them in a gleeful threesome. Of course, after all of these activities, he wakes up in bed. Miyuki seems to be the only one that won't put out for him.

Finally, he sees the entire gang being punished by their "mother", who really just has all of them as servants. She learns that Miyuki has fallen in love with him, and tortures her appropriately. Can Masaki save her? Can he save himself?

In the second part, "Fallen Angel Rina", an idol singer (who sings the worst music since the one in Ogenki Clinic) finds out that her father/manager has fallen ill, and that she owes debts to a lot of people. She's taken on by a new "management" group, determined to change her image. Of course, this means turning her into a total slut by making her wear nympho-clothes and gang-raping her at every turn. Eventually, she goes totally nuts and turns her previously Disney-esque concerts into mass origies.

Obviously, the former episode is the better one by far. It has a Tenchi Muyo!-style sense of humor and a sly sense of the odd, along with mega-spoogy sex scenes every three minutes or so. (Think U-Jin on Viagra.) Fallen Angel Rina is so-so, as it relies a bit too heavily on scenes of rape and nudity to retain viewer interest. I found my mind wandering.

Overall, this is a very fitting last volume. If you liked the rest of the series, you'll love this one.
Grade:

+ Well-rounded (for this show, anyway). Good plot on ep10.
Weak animation. Plot on ep11 could use some work.
