Digimon Ghost Game
Episode 5

How would you rate episode 5 of
Digimon Ghost Game ?
Community score: 4.0

After a pretty scary episode last week where children almost got stabbed in the face, it's nice to get an episode that seemed to focus a bit more on the goofy, wackier aspects of Digimon. The Digimon franchise has always had a sort of zany, childlike style of humor, but I'm surprised that it took us this many episodes to actually lean into that. This could be due to the fact that two of our main human leads are pretty grounded and straightforward. Hiro and Ruli are driven more by rationality and curiosity, respectively. So what happens when we introduce a character that is even more intelligent than them but is also strictly driven by fear with a Digimon partner with a huge chip on their shoulder? Well, you get the final pair to put on the main team: Kiyoshirō and Jellymon!

These two act as the main foundation of the entire episode and I'm honestly a little bit surprised. Jellymon spent pretty much the entire episode talking down to Kiyoshirō while also acknowledging that he might be the most capable of the group. Apparently this kid is a super-genius who skipped a bunch of grades in America but came back to Japan to just be a weeb. I will be honest, the info dump regarding his backstory and personality was a little bit much, especially when you consider the fact that previous episodes had already done a good job of giving a lot of context with very little. I also worry that there are some aspects of his personality that will clash or contradict each other, but I'll hold judgment on that until we see more of what he'll actually do when confronting more mysteries in future episodes. Jellymon is just a troll and I kinda love that about them as they feel right at home with past comedic relief and troublemaking Digimon. I just hope that this is the only instance where they act as the inciting incident because that will cause more harm then good down the road. We finally have the gang together so I look forward to seeing what they're all capable of as a unit.
