The story underneath is a universal one, powerful and expertly told. Viewers should be prepared for a devastating experience with a lot of challenging concepts that pile on hard and fast as the finale approaches.
Tech-based magical girls battle aliens in a heavily-derivative, otaku-pandering series that is definitely not aimed at little girls. It avoids mediocrity due an outstanding musical score and never forgetting that it is supposed to be fun.
Earth Defense Force is again what it once was. It is large, it is pointless, and it is good, dumb fun.
Higurashi: When They Cry is still an intriguing, spine-chilling, gut-churning horror/mystery hybrid that has nicely recovered from the prologue feel of the previous volume. It can be an intimidating series to pick up, but it looks as if those who stuck by it are about to be amply rewarded

Kaoru's Emi Takei, Sanosuke's Munetaka Aoki, Yahiko's Kaito Ōyagi aim to surpass 1st film ― Emi Takei (Kaoru Kamiya), Munetaka Aoki (Sanosuke Sagara), and Kaito Ōyagi (Yahiko Myōjin) spoke with the media late last October about this year's two live-action Rurouni Kenshin sequel films. The cast was filming at Miura Peninsula in Kanagawa Prefecture. It has been about two years since Takei and Aoki filmed the first live-action Rurouni Kenshin film. Like the first film, the sequels will devote much of their runtimes to action sequences. Aoki said it would not be interesting if they just maintained the same level of action from the first film, so they built upon the foundation of the first film for more spectacular sequences. Takei commented that she sensed the enthusiasm on set to make films that surpass the first film.

Anime Sols aims to reach goal of US$13,000 by May 2 ― The crowdfunding and streaming service Anime Sols announced last week that it is taking pledges for the third and final DVD set of the classic shoujo television anime Dear Brother (Oniisama E...). AnimeSols set a goal of US$13,000 to release episodes 27-39 on home video. The set has until May 2 to reach its goal. Based on Riyoko Ikeda's (The Rose of Versailles) original manga, the Dear Brother anime follows Nanako Misono after she enters an all-girls private school. Nanako writes letters about her day-to-day life to her "oniisama," a previous teacher from her cram school. A middle-class girl, Nanako encounters hardships and drama at the prestigious school of female elites.
Singer-songwriter to play the heroine in adaptation of Akira Saso's Manga ― At the "miwa Spring Concert 2014" held on Sunday at the Yoyogi National Stadium in Shibuya, singer-songwriter miwa announced she will play Amane in Maestro!, next year's live action film adaptation of Akira Saso's Maestro Manga. The role will be miwa's first time acting in a film. Amane is the heroine of the series and a flautist. miwa joins Tori Matsuzaka, who will play Kōsaka, a brilliant concert master, and Toshiyuki Nishida, who will play the mysterious conductor Tendō.

Novel based on QuinRose's fantasy romance games listed for October ― North American manga publisher Seven Seas Entertainment confirmed with ANN that it will release the Alice in the Country of Diamonds: Bet On My Heart (Diamond no Kuni no Alice - Bet on My Heart) romance novel in North America in October. Online retailer Amazon is listing the first volume for release on October 21. Alice in the Country of Diamonds: Bet On My Heart is based on QuinRose's Alice fantasy romance adventure game franchise. Sana Shirakawa wrote the novel and Nana Fumitsuki provided illustrations.
Scene where Shizuka encounters "hyper vacuum" is censored in TV Asahi broadcast ― TV Asahi aired the 2013 Doraemon film Doraemon: Nobita no Himitsu Dōgu Museum on March 6 with a censored scene. In the scene, the character Shizuka encounters the secret tool "hyper vacuum," and the vacuum sucks up the clothes she is wearing, including her underwear. Novel app by game series' director slated for March 17 ― North American video game publisher Aksys Games announced on Monday that it will release 999: The Novel by the game series' director Kotaro Uchikoshi as an iOS app on March 17. The visual novel offers the same story choices as the Nintendo 3DS game Zero Escape: Nine Hours, Nine Persons, Nine Doors, but has removed the escape puzzles. DAWN ~Tsumetai Te's Ueda pens manga adapting Marvelous AQL's PSP game ― The official website for the television anime of Marvelous AQL's Bakumatsu Rock game announced on Monday that a manga adaptation of the game will begin serializing in the May issue of Ichijinsha's Monthly Comic Zero-Sum magazine on March 28. The manga, titled Bakumatsu Rock -howling soul-, will be penned by Shinshu Ueda (Eikō no Te, DAWN ~Tsumetai Te). The original story of the game is set in the Bakumatsu era, at the end of the shoguns' rule over Japan in the middle of the 19th century. The Tokugawa shogunate uses the brainwashing "Heaven's Songs" by the top idols in Shinsengumi to subjugate the country and its people. In this Japan, writing or singing any songs besides the "Heaven's Songs" is a capital offense. Japanese band offers its 1st anime opening to robot series by Star Driver team ― The Japanese rock band flumpool announced on Monday that they are contributing their new song "Believers High" as the opening theme song for the Captain Earth television series from the anime studio Bones.
