K-ON!'s Real-Life School to Screen K-ON! Film

Former school that inspired anime to host 2-day screening, 'welcome party' event

The Viva City Cinema will screen the K-ON! film at the real-life model for the K-ON! anime's school on May 4 and 5 at 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Japan Time. 450 seats will be available at each screening. The second "Sakura High Freshmen Welcome Party!!" event will also be held at the school from 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m on May 5.

In 2009, Kyoto Animation modeled the K-ON anime's fictional Sakuragaoka High School after the former campus of Toyosato Elementary School in Shiga Prefecture, which was being repurposed since new school facilities were built. 50,000 fans now visit the campus every year, and over 1,000 goods have been put on display.

The former campus previously hosted the final stage for Toyosato Keion Koshien, a nationwide high school light music band competition in Japan, on November 19. Toyosato also hosted a concert of anime songs in 2009. The Shirouto Meikan television variety program scouted real high school bands to find a "live-action" K-ON for a June episode, and television host Danny Choo filmed a similar premise last year.

Based on kakifly's original manga, the K-ON! anime film sequel opened in Japan on December 3.
