posted on by Crystalyn Hodgkins
Event with subjects on anime, manga is free to students; registration closes this Friday

The University of East Anglia in Norwich will host a symposium titled "Contemporary Japanese Media Cultures: Industry, Society and Audiences" on Wednesday, September 5. The event will run from 9:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. (Directions to the university can be found on the university's website.)

The symposium will host multiple panels related to anime and manga. Scheduled speakers include Anime Encyclopedia co-author Jonathan Clements, Manga Entertainment's Jerome Mazandarani, and Hugh David, formerly of ADV UK.

The event will host panels on subjects such as Hatsune Miku, Lone Wolf and Cub, Nausicaä, and Meitantei Holmes (Sherlock Hound), as well as video games, the Moomins in Japan, and Japanese horror.

The symposium is a part of the university's "Manga to Movies Project," which "aims to refocus academic attention on the current industry, markets and texts for Japanese film."

The event is free for all students, and general admission is £35. Those planning to attend the event must send in a registration form (which can be found on the university's website) by Friday, August 24. (Note: the website for the symposium notes that the deadline is August 13, but ANN has confirmed that the true registration deadline is August 24. The form also states that "PG" or post-graduate students may attend for free, but ANN has confirmed that the event is free to all students.)

Disclosure: ANN UK editor Andrew Osmond will be a speaker at this event, and he contributed information to this article, but the article was written and edited by another ANN staff member. Osmond did not write or edit this news article.
