Space Brothers Manga Creator Chats With Astronauts Live Today (Updated)

Akihiko Hoshide dubbed anime from space; Sōichi Noguchi also had Space Brothers cameo

Space Brothers manga and anime creator Chūya Koyama will make a guest appearance on the International Space Station's live streaming event, "The Space Hangout," at 8:00 p.m. Japan Standard Time (7:00 a.m. EDT) on Thursday.

"The Space Hangout" is the real-time chat between astronaut Akihiko Hoshide and five invited participants. The chat is conducted with regular personal computers via the "Hangout" video chat feature on Google+ and a satellite feed. In addition to Koyama, actor Seikō Itō and another astronaut who lived aboard the ISS, Sōichi Noguchi, will take part in Thursday's chat.

Hoshide had just successfully finished a voice recording session for his upcoming animated appearance in the Space Brothers television series at the end of last month. His animated cameo will appear in the 31st episode, which will air on November 4. Crunchyroll streams the anime outside Japan as it airs.

Noguchi played himself on the same anime earlier this year, except he recorded his lines for the 13th episode on Earth. In 2010, the Japanese space agency JAXA posted a photograph of Noguchi on the International Space Station wearing the signature red-arrow-on-white shirt of Susumu Kodai, the main character of the classic anime Space Battleship Yamato. According to JAXA, Noguchi was a fan of Yamato as a child.
