Hyperdimension Idol Neptunia PP Video Runs Through Cast

posted on by Egan Loo
CPU goddesses turn into idols to sing & dance for Gameindustri's #1 share

Compile Heart began streaming the first 142-second promotional movie for its upcoming PS Vita game Kami Jigen Idol Neptune PP (Hyperdimension Idol Neptunia PP) on Thursday. The video runs through the large cast of returning characters and outlines how the player manages their careers as idols, similar to The IDOLM@STER games.

With this game, the goddesses are "graduating" and heading to the "never-before-seen" next stage with singing and dancing. The story is still set in the video-game homage world of Gameindustri, where the goddesses have maintained the peace. However, the world has been shaken to its core by the idol boom, and the goddesses lose their share of followers. To fight back, the goddesses must become idols themselves.

The video reintroduces the CPU goddesses-turned-idols Neptune/Purple Heart (voiced by Rie Tanaka, inspired by Sega), Noire/Black Heart (Asami Imai, PlayStation 3), Blanc/White Heart (Kana Asumi, Wii), and Vert/Green Heart (Rina Satō, Xbox 360) as they perform the opening theme song "Next Stage." (The song is actually written by Halko Momoi and sung by the idol group Afilia Saga.) The other returning characters include Nepgear (Yui Horie, Game Gear), Rom (Yui Ogura, DS), Ram (Kaori Ishihara, DS), and Uni (Eri Kitamura, PSP).

The player produces the idols' careers by training them, outlining their daily schedule, interacting with other characters in conversations, and arranging their live concerts (from set lists to dance moves and camera work). The more successful the characters get, the more share they gain as Gameindustri's #1 idols. In the viewer mode, players can "touch" the characters via the PS Vita screen to get them to perform different actions with voices.

The regular edition will retail for 6,279 yen (about US$63) on June 20, while the limited edition will go for 8,379 yen (US$84) and the download version for 5,300 yen (US$53). The limited edition comes with Hyperdimension Neptunia ~Goddess Communication~ Nep PP Edition, a situation drama CD, and an exclusive mobile phone stand. People who preorder the game will receive a Hyperdimension Idol Neptunia skin seal for the PS Vita and an accompanying animated wallpaper.
