Muv-Luv Alternative, Yatterman Series Sell NFTs

posted on by Kim Morrissy

The Muv-Luv and Yatterman franchises are jumping headfirst into the recent trend of selling art as NFTs. The Muv-Luv Verse English website announced on Friday that it is partnering with the Sakura Gate tech company to launch a Keyframe Card service on October 23. The first of the digital cards on offer will feature key animation frames from the ongoing Muv-Luv Alternative anime.

Although the Keyframe Cards will not have NFT functionality at launch, they will be added later as a means to incentivize owners to buy and trade cards on the NFT marketplace. Note that owning the Keyframe Card of a scene is not equivalent to owning the copyright, which is retained by the original IP holders.

As an extra incentive for the fans, those who buy a certain number of cards will have their names listed in the credits of the Muv-Luv Alternative Blu-ray Box and the accompanying booklet. The set will go on sale in Japan in January and March 2022.

Meanwhile, the DEAPcoin token teamed up with Tatsunoko Productions' Yatterman series on October 6 to launch an NFT lineup. Customers can request Tatsunoko Productions to draw a new original illustration with a specified character, background, or composition. The digital art comes in the style of trading cards with elemental attributes.

The practice of selling "fragmented" images cut from manga or anime art as NFTs has been gaining traction in Japan. Last week, MyAnimeList and Media Do teamed up to sell NFT products based on the Fist of the North Star manga. A similar NFT project titled "Fragments of Tezuka Osamu" has recently been announced by Tezuka Productions, whereby a mosaic made up of 'fragments' cut from the Astro Boy manga will be sold in an auction.
