Nico Nico Adopts English Say Hello to Black Jack Project

Streaming site confirms formal adoption of effort to translate Shuho Sato's medical manga

Nico Nico Seiga, the slide-show version of Dwango's popular Japanese streaming site Nico Nico Douga, confirmed on Thursday that it is formally adopting the English translation project for Shuho Sato's Say Hello to Black Jack medical manga. To that end, Nico Nico Seiga has launched an English website with links to the first seven chapters of the manga. According to Dwango, people can read the manga on its site for free, and volunteers can translate the manga after registering for free on the Nico Nico Douga service.

The project began on October 26 when Sato asked for volunteer English translators for his manga, and he then posted the first chapter of Say Hello to Black Jack on his Twitpic account so people could submit translations. Sato then revealed on October 29 that a site offered to translate the manga for free. This site also requested permission to distribute and sell the translated version overseas, after which it would share the revenues with Sato.

Besides Say Hello to Black Jack, Sato created Umizaru, The Isle of TOKKOU, and several other manga titles. He himself has been self-publishing his manga online since last summer, and he launched a website to release his manga (and manga by other creators) online.
