Japanese Box Office, August 6-7

Kamen Rider OOO/Gokaiger, Kochikame open; Pokémon, Kokuriko-Zaka Kara stay in top 10

The double feature Gekijō Kamen Rider OOO: Wonderful Shōgun to 21 no Core Medal and Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger the Movie Sora-Tobu Yūreisen opened at #1 on Kogyo Tsushinsha's box office chart, but they opened at #3 on Box Office Mojo's chart (below Transformers: Dark of the Moon and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2). They earned the equivalent of US$4,527,219 on 487 screens.

This year's two Pokémon films, counted together, dropped from #4 to #5 in their fourth weekend on Kogyo Tsushinsha's chart, but dropped to #6 on Box Office Mojo's chart. Combined, Gekijōban Pocket Monster Best Wishes! Victini to Kuroki Eiyū Zekrom and Gekijōban Pocket Monster Best Wishes! Victini to Shiroki Eiyū Reshiram earned the equivalent of US$2,248,805 on 351 screens for a grand total of US$33,658,243.

Kokuriko-Zaka Kara, Goro Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli's anime adaptation of Chizuru Takahashi and Tetsurō Sayama's shōjo coming-of-age manga, slipped from #5 to #6 in its fourth weekend on Kogyo Tsushinsha's chart, but stayed at #5 on Box Office Mojo's chart. It earned US$2,360,171 on 457 screens for a new total of US$29,155,507.

The manga-based, live-action film adaptation of Kochira Katsushika-ku Kamearikouen-mae Hashutsujo: The Movie: Kachidoki-bashi o Heisa seyo! opened at #7 with US$1,278,025 on 277 screens.

Naruto Shippūden: Blood Prison, the eighth Naruto anime film, dropped from #6 to #8 in its second weekend. It earned US$881,503 more on 260 screens for a new total of US$4,330,778. Masahiko Murata is the director of the film with a script by Akira Higashiyama.

Takashi Miike's live-action film adaptation of Soubee Amako's Rakudai Ninja Rantarō/Nintama Rantaro manga and anime fell from #8 to #9 in its third weekend. It earned US$760,168 more on 218 screens for a new total of US$6,023,226.

Soreike! Anpanman: Sukue! Kokorin to Kiseki no Hoshi dropped from #11 to #13 in its sixth weekend. It took in US$151,010 on 130 screens for a gross-to-date of US$3,653,116.

Fullmetal Alchemist: The Sacred Star of Milos (below left), the second anime film inspired by Hiromu Arakawa's Fullmetal Alchemist manga, fell from #10 to #14 in its sixth weekend. It earned US$139,945 on 71 screens for a total-to-date of US$7,401,480.
