Japanese Box Office, December 3-4

Kaibutsu-kun stays at #1, K-ON! opens at #2; Kaiji 2, Suite Precure stay in top 10

Eiga Kaibutsu-kun, the 3D live-action film adaptation of Fujiko Fujio A's Kaibutsu-kun supernatural action manga starring 30-year-old Arashi band member Satoshi Ohno, stayed at No. 1 during the December 3-4 weekend. Ohno had starred in a live-action television series version and a spinoff television special last year. The film earned the equivalent of US$5,788,827 on 446 screens in its second weekend for a new total of US$15,451,692.

Naoko Yamada and Kyoto Animation's K-ON! anime film opened at No. 2. The film depicts the five female members of Sakuragaoka High School's light music club in a story not seen in the television series. The original television voice cast reprised their respective roles in the movie. The film earned US$4,070,919 on 137 screens.

Kaiji 2 - Jinsei Dakkai Game, the live-action film sequel based on Nobuyuki Fukumoto's Kaiji gambling action manga, dropped from No. 3 to No. 6 in its fifth weekend. The film, which stars Tatsuya Fujiwara (Death Note), earned the equivalent of US$741,566 on 316 screens for a new total of US$18,821,098.

The latest Precure anime film, Eiga Suite Precure: Torimodose! Kokoro ga Tsunagu Kiseki no Melody, fell from No. 8 to No. 10 in its sixth weekend. The film ranked at No. 11 on Box Office Mojo's chart and took in US$255,135 on 165 screens for a gross-to-date of US$10,655,823.

The live-action film sequel to the manga-based television series Moteki fell off Box Office Mojo's chart during its 11th weekend.
