Medical Time-Travel Manga Jin Gets Takarazuka Stage Play

posted on
All-female theater troupe to perform stage play from October-December

Motoka Murakami's historical medical manga Jin will receive a stage play adaptation from the famous all-female Takarazuka Revue Company. In the original manga, the protagonist Jin Minakata is a doctor from present-day Japan who finds himself sent back to Japan's Bakumatsu era, the period that spelled the end of the shoguns' rule over Japan.

Actress Kei Otozuki will star as Jin Minakata and Mimi Maihane will star as Saki Tachibana. The stage play will be performed at the Takarazuka Grand Theater in Takarazuka from October 12 through November 12 and then at the Tokyo Takarazuka Theater from November 23 through December 24.

Jin has previously inspired two live-action television series, both broadcast on Japan's TBS network and starring Takao Osawa. A Korean live-action television adaptation starring Song Seung-heon will begin airing this month. Murakami's manga concluded its serialization in Shueisha's Super Jump magazine in 2010 and has been collected into 20 volumes.
