Funimation Adds 4 .hack Anime

posted on by Crystalyn Hodgkins

North American anime distributor Funimation announced at San Diego Comic Con on Thursday that it will release the following .hack anime on home video: .hack//SIGN, .hack//Roots, .hack//Legend of the Twilight, and .hack//G.U. Trilogy. Bandai Entertainment previously released all four anime on home video in North America.

Kōichi Mashimo (Tsubasa: RESERVoir CHRoNiCLE, Phantom ~Requiem for the Phantom~) directed the .hack//SIGN, .hack//Roots, and .hack//Legend of the Twilight television anime series. Hiroshi Matsuyama (.hack//The Movie) directed the .hack//G.U. Trilogy film, which opened in Japan in 2008. .hack//G.U. Trilogy is a CG-animated film that tells the story of the .hack//G.U. video games.

The 26-episode .hack//SIGN series originally aired in 2002 in Japan, and is a prequel to the .hack video game and OVA series. The 12-episode .hack//Legend of the Twilight series aired in 2003, and the 26-episode .hack//Roots series aired in 2006. .hack//Roots serves as a prequel to the .hack.//G.U. games.

Funimation also holds the rights to .hack//Quantum, which it released on DVD and Blu-ray Disc last year.
