'Miss Bernard said.' Bookworm Gag Anime's Trailer Previews Theme Song

posted on by Karen Ressler
Shōjo Fractal performs theme song for series premiering October 6

The official Twitter account for the television anime of Yūki Shikawa's Miss Bernard said. (Bernard-jō Iwaku.) manga began streaming a promotional video on Monday. The video previews the theme song "Love! Library!" by Shōjo Fractal, a duo consisting of Miya Amamiya and Risa Yuzuki.

The series will premiere on October 6 on Television Saitama, and also air on Television Kanagawa, KBS Kyoto, Sun TV, and AT-X. The series will debut streaming on Niconico, Bandai Channel, U-NEXT, Video Market, and Docomo Anime Store on October 11.

Eri Kitamura will star as the title character Sawako "Miss Bernard" Machida. Mikako Komatsu will play the diehard sci-fi otaku Shiori Kanbayashi, Mitsuhiro Ichiki will play the boy Endō., and Aya Suzaki will play longtime Sherlockian Sumika Hasegawa.

Hisayoshi Hirasawa (Ojisan to Marshmallow) is directing the anime at Creators in Pack (Ojisan to Marshmallow, Military!). Gonta is adapting Hamuto Natsuno's original character designs for animation. Yūichi Uchibori is writing the scenario, and Yoshikazu Maeda is producing the music at Gen'ei. Masakatsu Oomuro is directing the sound at Dax Production. Dream Creation is producing the project.

The short four-panel gag manga is about the love of famous works of literature. It follows Sawako "Miss Bernard" Machida, a lazy girl who wants to be a well-read person — but does not actually read much. The manga recounts the conversations between "Miss Bernard" and her bookworm friends about the Bible, The Tale of the Heike, Guns, Germs, and Steel, The Door into Summer, The Great Passage, Fermat's Last Theorem, and more masterpieces that she has not necessarily read.

The manga runs in Ichijinsha's Monthly Comic Rex magazine, and it won the 18th Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize along with Shikawa's other short manga Onnoji and Utsu Gohan. Ichijinsha published the first compiled book volume (pictured right) of Miss Bernard said. on April 19, 2013, and the second volume followed on July 27, 2015.
