Looking for Magical DoReMi Collector's Blu-ray/DVD Released Monday

posted on by Andrew Osmond

On Monday June 19, Anime Limited will release a Collector's Blu-ray/DVD edition of Looking for Magical DoReMi, including a 28-page booklet. The film commemorates the 20th anniversary of the Ojamajo Doremi magical girl anime franchise.

The story follows 27-year-old Tokyo office worker Mire Yoshizuki who just returned to Japan, 22-year-old fourth-year college student Sora Nagase who aspires to be a teacher, and 20-year-old boyish, part-time Hiroshima okonomiyaki shop worker and freelancer Reika Kawatani. What draws together these three women from completely different walks of life are Magic Spheres. A "New Magical Story" begins when they are mysteriously brought together by chance and embark on a journey.

Junichi Satō (Sailor Moon, Aria, Princess Tutu), the director of the original Ojamajo Doremi anime, directed the new film alongside Yū Kamatani (Precure franchise episode director) at Toei Animation. Midori Kuriyama (episode scriptwriter for Lovely Complex, Heartcatch Precure!) and Yoshihiko Umakoshi (Boys Over Flowers, Mushi-Shi) also returned from Ojamajo Doremi as scriptwriter and character designer, respectively, and Umakoshi is also credited as chief animation director.

Anime Limited will also release a Collector's Blu-ray edition of Mobile Suit Gundam Seed C.E.73: Stargazer. This is a 3-part ONA anime, and a side-story to the events in Mobile Suit Gundam Seed Destiny. The story is set during a war between the Earth Alliance and PLANT. Sven Cal Bayan is a Natural pilot of the elite EA squad, the Phantom Pain, and carries out his squad's various anti-Coordinator missions without fail. Selene McGriff is a Coordinator researcher at the neutral Deep Space Survey and Development Organization (DSSD) and a developer of the GSX-401FW Stargazer space exploration mobile suit. Though their backgrounds are completely different, the expanding war will nevertheless force their paths to collide.

Anime Limited will also release a Collector's Blu-ray/DVD edition of The House of the Lost on the Cape, including a 24-page booklet, two replica A3 posters, and a numbered art card.

The House of the Lost on the Cape opened in Japan in August 2021. The film won the Best Animation Film award at the 76th Annual Mainichi Film Awards in January. The film also competed at this year's Annecy International Animation Film Festival.

Anime Limited described the story:

"17-year-old run-away Yui and 8-year-old Hiyori, who lost her family and her voice, have no place to go when they run into Kiwa, a strange old lady. She offers them a place to stay, in a slightly banged-up old house overlooking the sea, a Mayoiga.

"Despite joining Kiwa on a whim, the two girls find comfort in the Mayoiga, a legendary house said to look after lost travelers, and the warm hospitality of Kiwa. Both girls' damaged hearts begin to heal little by little as time passes. Until one day, a variety of strange beings which Kiwa calls “Fushigitto” begin popping up around the house...

"Ten years after the Great East Japan Earthquake in Tohoku, as a result of which many people lost their lives and homes, Shinya Kawatsura directs this brand-new animation feature adapted from Sachiko Kashiwaba's novel, paying tribute to the area and its people. This is a heart-warming story of new beginnings and childhood wonder.

Shinya Kawatsura (Non Non Biyori, Sagrada Reset, Kokoro Connect) directed the anime at david production, and Reiko Yoshida (K-ON!, Violet Evergarden, Liz and the Blue Bird) penned the script. Kamogawa handled the film's character design, and Yuri Miyauchi composed the music. Kashiwaba released the original novel in 2015, and it won the 2016 Noma Award for Juvenile Fiction.

MVM will release a standard Blu-ray edition of the 2006 Studio Gonzo series Witchblade
